Hand Over Shift

Depending on where you will be posted to take over the PM Shift duty; extra time for travelling has to be planned as this will affect the overall rest period.  To me, this is an unproductive process. The much needed rest or sleeping time can be reduced by a further 2 hours. My house is in Woodlands, so when I am on Svc 178, I have to leave the house early, take a feeder bus service to WRI, hope onto a train bound for Jurong East and changed train there to continue to BLI (via Joo Koon Line).

On the other hand, when I have to end my AM shift in BLI, I will have to travel all the way back from Boon Lay to Woodlands.

So, I guess, you can imagine what would be like if you have to change shift in Geylang Lorong 1 for (svc 961), but your reporting place for work in the morning is in Woodlands Bus Depot.

My Malaysian colleagues are much stretched on this when been posted to end-duty in Geyland Lorong 1. For example, if end-duty there at 2pm. Take the same service bus back from there, (not driving this time, though) for another ~1.5hours.

Arrive in WRI, quickly try to catch Svc 169 or Svc858, stop at Woodlands Ave 9, Bus stop opposite block 773, and walk some 400M under the hot late afternoon sun to the Woodlands Bus Depot, to collect their bike and go home….and if not fast enough, this Malaysian BC, will get caught in the evening causeway jam.

(This is the kind of life that some of them faced day-in-day-out).  Worth it?
